Green Island Grass Kart Club Rules

* These items are altered from the South Island Official Rules

1. Engines
- No Methanol or Alcohol Fuels, Pump Gas, or Aviation Gas Only. - No excessive exhaust noise, 95 dB strictly enforced - Must be naturally aspirated, (No forced air , Turbo Etc. ) - All karts must have clutch . - No engines to exceed 610cc - Replacement Engines must be same as original, Like for Like, and same CC Rating.

2. Wheelbase
- 1800 x 1350 wide maximum (bumper to bumper, - outside of rear wheels)

3. Wheels
- 4 wheels per kart, No duels, No ATV tyres - Tyres must be no greater than 325mm in diameter, and no wider than 140mm. - Maximum tyre tread pattern spacing must not be greater than 12mm. - No tyre Tampering e.g. Hand Grooving

4. Brakes
- Must work on both rear wheels only.

5. Bumpers
- Not to exceed rear wheel and rim total width, have rounded corners, & be adequately constructed. No less than 100mm of total rear wheel base width. - Must be min of 100mm deep and Vertically up and down (90 Deg to Ground). - Front bumper must not exceed the inside turning line of either front tyre. - Front Bumper to match rear bumper, 100mm minimum deep. - No Barge Bars

6. Side Bars
- Side bars must start as close as possible at rear of front wheel, and finish as close as possible in front of rear wheel. These are to be constructed of two parallel ˝’OD bars (Min), Between 100 & 200mm centre to centre apart, with nothing protruding outside of rear wheels. - Motor may act as Side bar, but must have bars front and rear of Motor. - Plastic side pods are also accepted in place of the above side bars.

7. Chain Guard
- Must be fitted, to cover ALL of the top of the drive chain, must continue downwards at the rear, to a minimum of the axle centre, & must be able to deflect the chain downwards in the event of a break.

8. Fuel Tanks
- Must be securely mounted, and retain fuel from spillage. - Fuel shut off valve to be fitted and be accessible on all types of tank systems. - Breather must be fitted and so designed that it completely prevents all spillage. (E.g. must go down below Motor.) - If a battery is fitted, it must be sealed, and mounted well away from fuel tank.

9. Kill Switch
- Must be accessible and CLEARLY SEEN, must be functional, & work. - Must be mounted on Steering Column, or on Steering Wheel.

10. Numbers*
- Mounted front, back, and both sides 150mm * 65mm,(Each Character) minimum size, with black numbers on white, or white numbers on black, and must be clean prior to each race. - Numbers must be mounted on a horizontal Plane only, i.e. Across ways - Numbers must adhere to 3 digit format, with the Club number being the leading digit: Prefix is : 6 - Green Island i.e. 601, 650, 699 etc.

11. Helmets
- New Zealand Safety Standard, and fit correctly. - Must be worn at all times when in karts, This will be scrutineered. - No damaged, chipped, or cracked helmets. - Neck Braces are Recommended for more safety, especially for Juniors, & Midgets.

12. Protective Clothing
- Suitable protective footwear, eye protection, gloves, and overalls, (Full length & long sleeved) or racing suits, are all compulsory to be worn during racing.

13 Mud Flaps
- Fitted to rear bumper, no higher than 20mm off the ground. - Top of mud flap must be 25mm higher than top of rear wheel. - Must cover rear tyre and rim in width, plus a Min. of 5mm either side. - Any mud-flap damaged must be replaced, or repaired before next race. - Mudflaps must be rigid, but not metal.

14. Damaged Karts
- Must be Re-scrutineered before racing again. E.g. especially steering.

15. Crashes
- If you spin up, or break down on the track, remain in kart with both hands raised, until track is safe, then remove kart as quickly as possible. - If you run off the track, you must re enter at the point of exit, when the track is clear, or safe to do so. - No unauthorised people may be on the circuit. - Parent/Helper able to assist with Midget or Intermediate ONLY - Hand signals must be used at all times, when stopping, or leaving the track. - Any kart leaving the track must do so safely, and with consideration to others

16. Flags
- Flag Marshals must be obeyed at all times . - Flag Minimum Size to be 600mm * 600mm
- GREEN: Dropped - Go
- RED: Danger STOP where you are. That means stop immediately. (Danger to all on the track) If less than 4 laps completed, restart race using original grid positions, if 4 laps or more completed, race is finished, and placings are based on last lap positions, of completed lap as passed the finish line.
- YELLOW: Caution - Slow down and hold positions until passed hazard area
- BLACK Rolled - Warning of an offence, see head Marshall at completion of race.
- BLACK: Waved - Kart concerned must stop immediately. Further action as decided by the Head Marshall.
- RED/YELLOW Extreme caution, proceed to start line with caution. Race temporarily stopped
- WHITE: Last Lap - One further lap to complete, before end of race.
- CHEQUERED: Winning Flag, Finish of Race.

17 Lights*
- Lights May be used, Must have 3 lights, and also a false start light. Timing of the light sequence must be random timing.

18. Pits*
- At the discretion of the Club whether karts are to be pushed or slowly driven within the pits area. Safety is a big issue. E.g. No smoking while refuelling karts.

19. Alcohol
- No alcohol may be consumed before, or during the race meeting. - NO ALCOHOL IN PITS AREA FULL STOP.

20. Driving
- Deliberate barging, shunting, weaving, or Team driving, will receive automatic point deduction from that race, or at the discretion of the Head Marshal.

21. Abuse
- Anybody abusing an official, or other competitor, will be disqualified from ALL racing. I.E. Family or Pit Crew etc.

22 Dispute*
- If anything is in dispute, the Race Committee’s decision is FINAL. - Should a Driver admit to the dispute in any way, then that action becomes “A Matter of Fact”, and there ends the Dispute, and that Driver will then accept the appropriate Penalty, as decided by the Head Marshal.

23 Classes*.
The following classes are available to members as at the above date, however these are subject to change as motors etc, are upgraded.
0 - 205cc, 2 Stroke
0 - 205cc, 4 Stroke
201 - 255cc, Water (Power ported & or water cooled engines)
201 - 255cc, Air (Standard air-cooled engines)
251 - 610cc, (All models within range)
Juniors 11 to 16 years (0 - 205cc Engines)
Midgets 10 years & Under (0 - 205cc Engines)
Ladies (Handicapped according to cc rating)
Open Class (All in) Marble Draw.

24. Starting*
- Standing Starts. All Karts must be stationery at the Grid, prior to Starting. - First break of the Line, then start from at Least 20 meters back from the Start Line. (IE

25. Grid Gaps
- If there are any gaps in the grid created by failure of a kart to turn up, then that gap shall remain unfilled and all karts will remain in the drawn position, with 0ne Kart Length between each Kart on the Grid (1800mm).

29. Indemnity
- All Drivers, Head Marshall, Referees, & Flag Marshals must sign the Indemnity Form provided by the Organising Club, to alleviate that Club, Ground Owner, Sponsors, or Officials from any form of claim. (Minors under 16 must have a Parent or Guardian’s Signature approving conditions of entry and indemnity)

30. Insurance
- Host Club must have Public Liability Insurance Cover, and be able to produce proof of such cover, should it be requested by the SI Champs Rule Committee.

33. Karts*
- A full Belly Tray is compulsory on all Karts - All rules, dimensions and safety aspects relating to Karts, are subject to the scrutineer's discretion at each event. -All Karts must be presented in a safe condition. This includes positive steering without excessive play, no breaks or defects to the frame and/or its attachments, which may hinder the safe operation of the Kart, and all bearings in good condition
