February 2009
Well we have had a couple off race meets this year already with the fist being at Berwick on a what turned out to be a very warm day. The grass being long helped keep the dust down for most of the racing. We then went to Milton for racing on Sunday 1st Feb for a day in the wind but with some great racing on one of the Finch’s paddocks. It is good to see that the club seems to be growing in numbers with new members throughout most of the classes.
We have had a lot of enquires about getting karts so if anyone knows of any for sale let me know and I will add them to the newsletter.
Reminders & notes from monthly meeting
FLAG MARSHALLS – As usual there are the same people out on the track doing the marshalling. Please help others members of the club enjoy their day out by sharing this important job.
We are still looking into getting a club paddock by the scout camp in Whare Flat.
Karts should be up to the SI Champ Rules standard by now if not please get them sorted.
There are karts turning up with the same issues time after time.
Please remember there is no practice before racing starts, we will have a sighting lap before the first
race of each class.
There is a new start time for race days. Scrutineering will be from 9:25 – 9:45am
With racing at 10am Sharp. This will start at the racing this weekend in Milton. This is a trial to see how it works to free up time in afternoon to have more fun events.

18th March SI Champs Meeting Waihola Tavern 7:30pm for those involved

Possible Display Day at Wings & Wheels
We have been asked along to the Wings & Wheels day again to do a display. We are trying to sort out details so lookout for more info later.
SI Champs
We are still looking for sponsors for the Champs if you can put us onto anyone that is interested it will be appreciated. We are looking for $200 per class or any donation will be thankfully received.
Any sponsor is able to throw up some advertising around the track and will have their name over the loudspeaker all weekend and printed in the program.
Please get your entries in for the champs by 10th March or sooner would be even better.
Text Cancellation Service
We are wanting to use this to send out any urgent info or surprise race dates as well as cancellations.
Please get hooked up if you have not yet done so, If you are already can you please let me know so we can get an idea how many people are in the loop.

Sundays racing was enjoyed by all with some great weather and enough wind to move the dust along the paddock. Thanks to the Milton club for the invite to come along and race and get some experience on some long green grass again.
There was a great turnout of karts and all the classes got to have some great battles on the track. With a bit of track adjustment we managed to keep the dust down and kept the track slippery for most of the day as well. No dramas on the day but plenty of flat tires to keep people busy between races.
Reminders & notes from monthly meeting
Here is a list of items mentioned at the monthly meeting and also some reminders to hopefully make things run more smoothly on race days.
All scrutineering to de done at the club trailer where money will be paid and indemnity form will be signed, put number on board while there to save missing out on grid draw.
Any late people to arrive will go off the back of the grid.
Race order will be determined before racing starts so all people can see when they have time to flag marshal. This will mean the usual persons are not always doing it. Someone will be watching.
Please remember there is not a sighting lap before every race, Please go directly to the grid starting block. The flag marshal will allow for sighting lap if the track has been changed significantly between races. This will let the track last through the day and help move things along.
Racing on the 9th in Palmerston was not one of the better days in the clubs history. From the moment we turned up you could tell that it was not going to be smooth day. With the paddock having been sprayed there was no grass to keep any moisture in the field so things were dusty from the practice laps. Racing finally got underway and unfortunately with only half a lap into the race we had a horrific crash between 2 karts. I will not go into the details of injuries but an ambulance was required. Both parties were made as comfortable as possible and taken away to hospital. The rest of the day was called off and things were packed up.
Jon Anderson & Stan Leishman would like to thank all those that helped at the time of the accident,
From the people at the crash site to those who packed things up so they could get away as quick as possible.
If we come across any more paddocks of this standard we will make a call at the start of the day to what kind of racing if any will be run. We do not want a repeat of what happened last weekend, We all like to have fun but need to think of the safety side as well.
All those who paid for scrutineering for the days racing will get it passed onto the next race day.
The club will be purchasing some blankets for the first aid kit in the trailer for any future incidents that may happen.
Everyone enjoyed another great days racing on the tarmac on the 21st September.
It was pleasing to see so many people turn out for what was a great days racing although the wind did
try to mess us around a little. Thanks to all for looking after the outfield and leaving the place clean and tidy at the end of the day. A majority of people had slicks to race on and it made for some great racing.
There was a bit of drama on the day with Jeremy having a bit of a moment. He was not too badly injured with a whack to the knee and some skin removed for show. The lap countdown stand was also wiped out by one of the tarmac members having a go in my kart. Caused a bit of damage (to kart and stand) but both will be repaired before next racing.
Don’t forget memberships are due if you want points to be counted Pay Up.
Nov 9th Points Meeting Palmerston - Signposted from bridge.
Nov 10th Monthly meeting at the Valley Lodge - All welcome.
Grass Tyres
I have heard back from Aaron at Mag & Turbo that he is able to get the 5 inch round style tyres.
They will be more expensive than the diamond shape pattern at $35 each.
Go Karts Needed
We have had quite a bit of interest with people wanting to get into racing, so if there are any karts out there that you know of up for sale please let me know and I will pass on the information to the list of people we have.
No events have been held since the last newsletter but I am sure there has been plenty of work going on to get karts set up for the next meeting at Silverstream. Racing was put off for a week due to the Kart club double booking the track for the 14th September, most people were happy to have a bit more time to sort there karts out.
Memberships are due for those that have not yet paid. There will be forms available at the next race meeting.
Sept 21 Racing at Silverstream scrutineering starting 9:30 Racing 11 am. Rain off date 28 Sept
Oct 13 Monthly meeting Valley Lodge 7:30 pm
Silverstream
Don’t forget you can bring slicks or grass tyres. We will be putting tyres out on some corners to try and curb the destruction to the grass that occurred last time. If you can make to the track earlier to help it would be appreciated. Karts will have to be stopped at the pit entrance and pushed through the pit area.
Special note for Green Island members - please bring a broom to the next meeting for clean up at the end of the day.
Grass Tyres
Last month I mentioned I was in contact with Aaron Black at Mag and Turbo. He had sourced the 5 inch diamond pattern wheels. I have been back to see if he can get the 5 inch rounds that are also commonly used and he will get back to me with a price & availability.
If anyone has any karts or parts for sale send me an email and I will put them in the newsletter.
We have people looking for frames if there are any out there.
Jack Gibbs has some Rear slicks for sale. $20 per wheel. first in first served. Call him on 4878936.
Sundays racing was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We had a huge turnout with 49 karts competing on the day. A number of people travelled from as far away as Christchurch and Invercargill. It was fantastic to have their support. Having so much competition made for some great racing and an excellent way to ruin some grass tyres. The weather was on our side and once the ice melted we were able to lay some rubber on the track. Plans are already underway to make sure that we can get back out on the track for another day of fun. Thanks to all that showed up and well done with keeping the place clean and tidy.
Upcoming events
Sep 8 Monthly meeting at Valley Lodge 7:30pm
Sept 14 Racing at Silverstream scrutineering 11am. Rain off date 21 Sept
Silverstream
The next time we use the track you will have the option to use slicks. If you want to race on slicks at the next meeting you will only be able to race against others with slicks. So you may not be running with the same “cc” rating karts as yours depending on numbers.
Special note for Green Island members - please bring a broom to the next meeting for clean up at the end of the day.

Too many people didn’t fill out forms last year.
Silverstream
Racing at Silverstream will be $20 per kart and scrutineering will be from 10am racing at 11am.
All karts must have catch bottle for the engine, fuel & water, if water cooled, you will not be able to race
if your kart does not have these bottles on.
This is part of the conditions to be able to get back onto Silverstream.
It would be preferable to drain any antifreeze from water cooled karts as it eats away the tarmac surface
if spilt onto it, If you drain the antifreeze you do not need a catch bottle for the radiator.
Racing will be with GRASS TYRES ONLY.
